Tick Awareness Month

Ticks can be active every season - every day when temperatures reach 4 degrees celsius and above.

Research has recently shown that infection with tick borne pathogens like Borrelia Burgdoferi (which can cause Lyme Disease) and Anaplasma phagocytophilum may make ticks more resilient, especially in our colder Canadian climate. More resilient ticks mean an increased risk for people and pets.

Common Tick Habitats Include:

Wooded Areas / Leaf Litter / Tall Grass Ticks can be found in urban/suburban and rural areas

Preventing Ticks on Your Pet

  1. Check pets daily for ticks, especially after they've been outside.

  2. If you find a tick on your pet, remove it right away.

  3. Reduce tick habitat in your yard (clean up leaf litter, clear tall grasses, mow lawn frequently, stack wood neatly, etc).
